Abuse victims reject Jesuit payout offer

A body representing former pupils sexually abused by Jesuit priests in Germany rejected on Thursday an offer of 5,000 euros (6,832 dollars) in compensation per victim as woefully inadequate.

"The sum is totally insufficient, either to compensate for the damage caused or to signal a recognition of guilt," Thomas Weiner from the Eckiger Tisch (Square Table) told the Frankfurter Rundschau daily.

Instead, victims should receive on average a payout of 80,000 euros each, he said, 16 times the offer announced by Jesuit orders on Wednesday.

A spokesman for the order in Munich said the Jesuits had sent the offer in letters and emails to the around 200 victims who had come forward, in which it was noted that the sum "could never compensate for the suffering incurred."

Recipients had attended Jesuit schools across Germany, where revelations a year ago of sexual violence against students brought a scandal plaguing the Roman Catholic Church to Pope Benedict XVI's native country.

The spokesman in Munich, Thomas Busch, said the payout would not be made for another two to three months while the Jesuits sought a comprehensive offer with other Roman Catholic institutions.

The German Bishops Conference has not yet taken a decision on the matter.

Germany has faced revelations over the past year that hundreds of children were physically and sexually abused in institutions throughout the country, all but a handful run by the Roman Catholic Church.

The Church in Germany has said it failed to investigate properly claims of abuse and that in some cases there was a cover-up, with paedophile priests simply moved elsewhere instead of being disciplined and reported to the police.

It has also faced accusations of foot-dragging on reparations for victims, most of whom suffered their abuse several decades ago, too long ago for criminal charges to be brought.

The 83-year-old pope is due to visit Germany in September in his first state visit since becoming pontiff in 2005. He has made two private trips in 2005 and 2006.

Obama wants to impose new universal internet ID

The Obama administration is developing a "universal Internet ID" program that would watch, track, monitor and potentially control your activity on the Internet. These "trusted identities" are being touted as a way to increase safety and security on the Internet and as a way to eliminate the need for dozens of different usernames and passwords. But is a universal Internet ID that is issued and controlled by the U.S. government really a good idea?  Right now, Obama administration officials are trying to make it seem as non-threatening as possible. They are insisting that it will not be mandatory. They are insisting that it would be impossible for hackers to steal the universal Internet identities. They are insisting that none of our personal information will be gathered or used by federal agencies. But in light of how regularly the government has abused our liberties and freedoms in recent years in the name of "security", should we really believe what they are saying about this new universal Internet ID?

Perhaps to assuage concerns about "Big Brother", the Obama administration is proposing that the U.S. Commerce Department be the one to oversee these new universal Internet identities.

But how long do you think it would take for the Department of Homeland Security (along with several dozen other government agencies) to get involved in "administering" these "trusted identities"?

The potential for government abuse of such a system is absolutely staggering. As we have seen so many times over the past few years, when you give government bureaucrats an inch, often they end up taking several miles.

So what are some of the other potential problems of such a system?

Well, by creating a "master key" to the Internet for each and every individual, if it is lost or stolen you could literally lose everything you have worked so hard for in a single day. Imagine what could happen if a very evil hacker gained instant access to your bank account, your credit cards, your Paypal account, your email, your Facebook account, your Twitter account, your Ebay account, your Amazon account, your blogs, your websites and everything else of importance on the Internet that belongs to you.

Just imagine the damage that could be done.

In addition, it would only be a matter of time before this universal Internet ID becomes "a de facto national ID".

In fact, it is not hard to imagine that "in the name of security" Americans would soon be required to link the universal Internet ID to biometric information or even link it to a microchip implant of some sort.

Of course this new program is going to "start out as voluntary", but how many times before has the government introduced "voluntary" programs that later became mandatory?

Once this universal Internet ID is implemented, it is only going to be a matter of time until many different federal agencies and a significant percentage of large corporations begin demanding that people start using it. Eventually it would become extremely difficult to function on the Internet without one. Once that point arrives, it would only be a very small step to make it mandatory for everyone.

Of course right now the Obama administration insists that it is "doing us a favor" by creating a system that would enable us to be able to get rid of the dozens of usernames and passwords that we all use now.

But what all of this really sounds like is the kind of Internet controls that are being imposed in places like China.

The truth is that a universal Internet ID would give the U.S. government more power to license, monitor and police the Internet than they have ever had before.

In fact, some talking heads on the major news networks are already touting this new identification system as a way to "tone down" the "vicious" rhetoric on the Internet.

Of course what that really means is that they want to shut up a lot of the dissenting voices out there because they are not "politically correct" and they don't agree with the version of the "truth" that the establishment media is constantly pushing.

Hopefully the American people will realize that a universal Internet ID controlled by the government would be another gigantic step in the direction of becoming a Big Brother police state. Unfortunately, the American people have not been doing a great job of standing up for liberty and freedom at this point. There was an initial uproar when the new "naked body scanners" were installed at U.S. airports and when airport officials started feeling up our private areas as part of the new "enhanced pat-downs", but most Americans seem to have accepted these "new security procedures" at this point.

So now the Obama administration is ready to push even further. They want to put a chokehold on the last great bastion of free speech in America - the Internet.

Someday if you have to get a license from the U.S. government to read articles like this or to write articles like this, don't say that you weren't warned.

The Pope lifts up an ancient symbol of the sun god, carried by a gold piece formed like the crescent moon. In Ancient Egypt, this was a symbol of the Mother of gods, Isis.

The Pope has mixed ancient Egyptian paganism into a Catholic doctrine.

If you look carefully, you can you see the crescent moon in gold, holding up the round wafer inside the ring.

If it is true that the Roman Catholic Church is not a Biblical Church, the falsehood of its priesthood will manifest it self in all kinds of pagan practices.

I have not paid to much attention about secret signs, and codes that will expose the Vatican. But after Jesus of the Bible gave me some vital information about the religious ritual of the Eucharist, I have to admit that we need to pay attention.

Because the World Council of Churches and Rome are seriously debating how to come back into full communion in regards to the “Eucharist Celebration”.


First:

There is absolutely no verses in the Bible that demands the bread in the last supper to be anything but an oven colored and shaped Jewish bread, blessed and broken by Jesus and shared at the table. It was the fellowship around the bread of life (The Word) and blood (His crucifixion) that was Jesus gift of eternal life to those who obey Him.


Second:

The Catholic priesthood has made breaking of physical bread, into a alter ritual around a pre-manufactured wafer. On the alter, they put this wafer into a strange gold stand, called the monstrance. The priest than lift the round wafer host in the holder above his head.

Afterwords the faithful are invited to eat the wafer. But very few have a clue about what exactly the priest have done at the alter.

Who does this gold strand represent?


Why put a bright white wafer inside a ring of gold?


And what kind of arrangements holds the host inside the ring?

If Rome only had included Egyptian paganism and Islamic symbolism in the Catholic Eucharist, some people could have defended this. They might tell you: “In the Catholic Eucharist we have a symbolic victory over the old ancient religions, and have Christianized them”.

It took two years and six trips to court, but Bakersfield resident Diane Bevacqua finally beat a red-light camera ticket.

And her victory could, at least for a time, help stymie prosecution of the tickets, traffic lawyers say.
"This could end up killing that whole program," said Bill Slocumb, a Bakersfield attorney, about ramifications of appellate decisions in Bevacqua's case and one in Orange County.

But local police, who prosecute the violations, say there'll be no impact.

Last month, Bevacqua's ticket was thrown out on appeal by Kern County Superior Court Judge Colette Humphrey in part because the photos and video used to convict her came from a private company -- not from a public employee, as one section of the state evidence code requires.

The city's red-light camera system, like most around the country, is owned and operated by a private vendor. For Bakersfield, that's Arizona-based Redflex Traffic Systems Inc., part of a global firm based in Australia.
Bevacqua, 56, who with her husband owns local business Wallpapers ETCetera, was making a left turn from eastbound Stockdale Highway onto California Avenue on the afternoon of Sept. 15, 2008, when the telltale bright flashes popped.

To this day, she believes the left-turn arrow she was looking at -- the pole-mounted signal on the corner -- was yellow.

"My whole contention was basically over the light," said Bevacqua, who represented herself in court. "I didn't want to get off over a technicality." Read the rest of the story HERE

Ex-UN Inspector Faces Child-Sex Charges

(Jan. 14) – A former chief U.N. weapons inspector was recently arrested on charges of making unlawful sexual contact with a minor over the Internet, again.

Scott Ritter, who searched Iraq for weapons of mass destruction from 1991 to 1998, has been accused of using an online chat client to send sexually explicit videos to an undercover officer posing as a 15-year-old girl, the Pocono Record reports.

The incident allegedly took place in February 2009, but Ritter wasn't arrested until November because investigators had to obtain court orders to search his cell phone and computer for evidence. He is presently free on $25,000 bail and is set to face trial March 9.

Ritter won praise during the early 2000s for penning articles criticizing the Bush administration's decision to invade Iraq. He also authored several books critiquing the U.S. intelligence community.

Yet during that time, he downplayed a 2001 arrest on similar online child-sex charges, which were eventually dropped. He said that criticism of him based on that incident was a politically motivated reaction to his outspoken anti-war stance.

The ex-Marine, who resides in Delmar, N.Y., has twin daughters who are 16 years old. A copy of the affidavit with testimony from the undercover officer is available on The Smoking Gun (warning: extremely graphic content).

In closing. Seymour Hersh unleashed

Update (2/13/23): Legendary investigative journalist Seymour Hersh claimed on Saturday that his latest bombshell report, which suggests the CIA was responsible for the destruction of the Nord Stream pipelines in September, was not a hard story to find. In a speech billed as a discussion of the Bush and Obama eras, New Yorker journalist Seymour Hersh delivered a rambling, conspiracy-laden diatribe here Monday expressing his disappointment with President Barack Obama and his dissatisfaction with the direction of U.S. foreign policy.

"Just when we needed an angry black man," he began, his arm perched jauntily on the podium, "we didn't get one."

It quickly went downhill from there.

Hersh, whose exposés of gross abuses by members of the U.S. military in Vietnam and Iraq have earned him worldwide fame and high journalistic honors, said he was writing a book on what he called the "Cheney-Bush years" and saw little difference between that period and the Obama administration.

He said that he was keeping a "checklist" of aggressive U.S. policies that remained in place, including torture and "rendition" of terrorist suspects to allied countries, which he alleged was ongoing.

He also charged that U.S. foreign policy had been hijacked by a cabal of neoconservative "crusaders" in the former vice president's office and now in the special operations community.

"What I'm really talking about is how eight or nine neoconservative, radicals if you will, overthrew the American government. Took it over," he said of his forthcoming book. "It's not only that the neocons took it over but how easily they did it -- how Congress disappeared, how the press became part of it, how the public acquiesced."

Hersh then brought up the widespread looting that took place in Baghdad after the fall of Saddam Hussein in 2003. "In the Cheney shop, the attitude was, ‘What's this? What are they all worried about, the politicians and the press, they're all worried about some looting? ... Don't they get it? We're gonna change mosques into cathedrals. And when we get all the oil, nobody's gonna give a damn.'"

"That's the attitude," he continued. "We're gonna change mosques into cathedrals. That's an attitude that pervades, I'm here to say, a large percentage of the Joint Special Operations Command."

He then alleged that Gen. Stanley McChrystal, who headed JSOC before briefly becoming the top U.S. commander in Afghanistan, and his successor, Vice Adm. William McRaven, as well as many within JSOC, "are all members of, or at least supporters of, Knights of Malta."

Hersh may have been referring to the Sovereign Order of Malta, a Roman Catholic organization commited to "defence of the Faith and assistance to the poor and the suffering," according to its website.

"Many of them are members of Opus Dei," Hersh continued. "They do see what they're doing -- and this is not an atypical attitude among some military -- it's a crusade, literally. They see themselves as the protectors of the Christians. They're protecting them from the Muslims [as in] the 13th century. And this is their function."

"They have little insignias, these coins they pass among each other, which are crusader coins," he continued. "They have insignia that reflect the whole notion that this is a culture war. … Right now, there’s a tremendous, tremendous amount of anti-Muslim feeling in the military community.”"

Hersh relayed that he had recently spoken with "a man in the intelligence community... somebody in the joint special operations business" about the downfall of Zine el-Abidine Ben Ali in Tunisia. "He said, ‘Oh my God, he was such a good ally.'"

"Tunisia's going to change the game," Hersh added later. "It's going to scare the hell out of a lot of people."

Moving to Pakistan, where Hersh noted he had been friendly with Benazir Bhutto, the journalist told of a dinner meeting with Asif Ali Zardari, the late prime minister’s husband, in which Hersh said the Pakistani president was brutally disdainful of his own people.

Hersh described a trip he made to Swat, where the Pakistani military had just dislodged Taliban insurgents who had taken over the scenic valley, a traditional vacation area for the urban middle class. Hersh said he asked Zardari about the tent cities he saw along the road, where people were living in harsh, unsanitary conditions.

“Well, those people there in Swat, that’s what they deserve,” the Pakistani president replied, according to Hersh. Asked why, Hersh said Zardari responded, “Because they supported the Taliban.” (Note: Hersh's conversation is not recounted in his 2009 New Yorker article on Pakistan's nuclear weapons, presumably because it couldn't be verified.)

The veteran journalist also alleged that the CIA station chief in Islamabad, who was recently recalled after his name surfaced in Pakistani court documents and in the lively Pakistani press, had actually been fired for disputing the plans of Gen. David Petraeus, who took over the Afghan war last summer after General McChrystal was summarily dismissed.

"When Petraeus issued a very optimistic report about the war in December that he gave to the president," Hersh said, the station chief "just declared it was bankrupt... internally. He just said ‘This is completely wrongheaded. The policy's wrongheaded.' Off he goes. Out he goes."


"I've given up being disillusioned about the CIA," Hersh said. "They're trained to lie, period. They will lie to their president, they will lie certainly to the Congress, and they will lie to the American people. That's all there is to it."

Hersh was speaking on the invitation of Georgetown University's School of Foreign Service, which operates a branch campus in Qatar.
